Theodore Syriopoulos, Professor, Department of Shipping, Trade and Transport, University of the Aegean

Dr. Theodore Syriopoulos is Professor of Finance at the Department of Shipping, Trade and Transport, School of Business Studies, University of the Aegean, Greece. He also holds adjunct and visiting posts at Audencia Nantes Business School, France; Newcastle University, UK; Shanghai Maritime University, China; Athens University of Economics and Business, Greece; National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece; International Hellenic University, Greece; University of Western Attica, Greece; and, Hellenic Open University, Greece.

Prior to joining the academia and for nearly two decades, Prof. Syriopoulos held top executive management posts in banking, investment, asset management, corporate finance and consulting business (including ING Group; Piraeus Bank/Macedonia-Thrace Bank; Athens Stock Exchange; CFS Investment House; Bank of Cyprus).

Prof. Syriopoulos publishes regularly in accredited international financial journals, as well as in edited volumes and books in topics of finance. Research fields of interest include applied corporate finance; global capital markets and portfolio management; mergers & acquisitions; financial derivatives and risk management; shipping finance and banking; corporate governance and social responsibility. Prof. Syriopoulos has gained extensive experience in research programs and executive education, as instructor, academic director and organizer of executive programs and distance-learning education.

Prof. Syriopoulos is a member of international academic and professional bodies and associations including: European Finance Association; American Finance Association; European Financial Management Association; Multinational Finance Society; International Association of Maritime Economists; Hellenic Association of Maritime Economists; Hellenic Finance and Accounting Association; Hellenic Economic Chamber; Federation of Institutional Investors; Federation of European Stock Exchanges; International Money-Laundering Committee.

Prof. Syriopoulos holds a Ph.D. Diploma in Applied Economics (1990), University of Kent at Canterbury, UK; a M.A. Diploma in Development Economics (1987), University of Kent at Canterbury, UK; and a B.A. Diploma in Economics (1985), University of Piraeus, Greece.
